Rudd Government Hosts Landmark forum To Explore Australia’s Digital Future

The Rudd Government will host a major forum to explore Australia’s potential in the digital economy.

The Realising Our Broadband Future forumwill be held in Sydney on December 10 and 11, 2009.

“The digital economy already offers exciting opportunities for all Australians. It is essential to our productivity and improved social well-being,” the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, said.

“The National Broadband Network will turbo-charge our digital economy and enable Australia to become a global leader, harnessing new applications to support economic growth and service delivery.”

“We want to demonstrate the great innovation taking place in education, health, business, government and the community that will shape the way we live our lives in the future.”

“This forum will highlight the opportunities and help our research community and commercial sectors plan for the digital applications, services and business models of the future.”

Realising Our Broadband Future will be opened by the Prime Minister and include key industry participants as well as public interaction. Keynote speakers include NBN Co CEO Mike Quigley and Jeff Cole, the Director of the Centre for the Digital Future at the University of Southern California.

“This is about casting a vision for the future, highlighting the opportunities for businesses and other organisations to develop and embrace new applications and services enabled in the high-speed broadband environment.”

“This is the beginning of a national dialogue that will help us to define roles and map how we can work together to achieve our digital economy goals.”

Webcasts of the plenary sessions and live audio of the specialist streams at the forum will be available. The public will also be invited to contribute to the discussion via Twitter and through a collaborative wiki.
