Residents of Horsham in the Wimmera region in Victoria will soon be able to enjoy the benefits of nineteen community infrastructure projects, with eighteen officially opened today and another to be completed by the end of the year.

As part of the Rudd Labor Government’s Economic Stimulus Plan, the Horsham Rural City Council received $519,000 for these projects.

The funding was used to upgrade and construct new community facilities across the region, including:

  • Installation of Disabled Playground Equipment
  • Resurfacing of Dance Studio Flooring
  • Electrical upgrade at Horsham Caravan Park
  • Replacement of the Horsham Theatre Roof
  • Development of Community Garden and Creative Playground
  • Upgrade to the Horsham Visitor Information Centre
  • Upgrade of the City Oval Grandstand
  • Construction of a Shared Pathway
  • Upgrade of Dudley Cornell Park
  • Development of Horsham Community Meeting Room
  • Construction of a Walking Track and Bike Path
  • Upgrade to Weir Park
  • Upgrade of Water Supply at Dadswell Bridge
  • Upgrade of the Wetlands Pedestrian Track
  • Upgrade of the Soldiers Memorial Hall
  • Replacement of Fencing at Horsham Botanic Gardens
  • Extension of a Shared Pathway on Old Hamilton Road
  • Improvements to the City Oval; and
  • Upgrade to amenities at Taylors Lake.

In partnership with every council in the country we are delivering more than 3,300 small and larger scale building projects, including new and refurbished public libraries, sporting facilities, parks and playgrounds, and child care centres.

In fact, we’re making the single largest federal investment in community infrastructure through the more than $1 billion Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.

The Program’s remaining $220 million will be made available to councils in coming months, with Horsham Rural City Council set to receive at least $204,000.

This additional funding will support even more local jobs and rebuild even more of the nation’s vital community infrastructure.

I congratulate the Horsham Rural City Council and the local community for helping deliver these important community facilities and helping build a stronger region for the future.
