Canada Supports New Innovative Learning Website Wapikoni
The tool will include multimedia learning material that will help users gain a better understanding of contemporary life in First Nations.
On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Member of Parliament (Mégantic-L’Érable), today announced funding for Wapikoni Mobile for the development of an educational tool called Rencontres et découvertes autochtones (”Aboriginal Encounters and Discoveries”).
“Our Government wants to encourage Canadians to better know and understand Canada and its history, stories, people, and systems of government,” said Minister Moore. “We are proud to support this innovative learning resource, which gives young Canadians a valuable opportunity to discover various aspects of First Nations.”
“By providing this learning material through its website, Wapikoni Mobile will enable educators and youth across Canada to have access to an excellent educational resource on the subject of First Nations,” said Minister Paradis.
The Government of Canada has provided $50,355 in funding to Wapikoni Mobile under the Canadian Studies Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. Through this program, the Department supports the development of learning materials and activities that contribute to increasing Canadians’ knowledge about Canada.
