Canada Supports Trades And Technology Careers

Local youth will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in the skilled trades and learn about career opportunities in the trades and technology sectors thanks to support from the Government of Canada.

Ms. Cathy McLeod, Member of Parliament for Kamloops–Thompson–Cariboo, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, today announced federal support for the 2010 Cariboo Regional Skills Competition and the Thompson Rivers University Techno Expo.

“In today’s environment, it is more important than ever that all Canadians have the skills and information they need to participate and succeed in the job market,” said Ms. McLeod. “Our government is proud to support activities like this one that benefit both employers and youth.”

A.R. Green Enterprises Ltd. will receive $15,513 through the Government of Canada’s Youth Awareness program to organize and promote the two events, which will help make careers in the skilled trades and technology sectors more visible and accessible for youth.

“These two events will give local youth the opportunity to participate in competitions that showcase their technical and leadership skills, and also raise their awareness of the fields of trades and technology,” said Mr. Alan Green, President of A.R. Green Enterprises Ltd. “The funding and support from the Government of Canada, Skills Canada, Thompson Rivers University, local unions and trades associations will go a long way in ensuring a great experience for all the participants.”

The Youth Awareness program is part of the Government of Canada’s strategy to create the best educated, most skilled and most flexible workforce in the world.
