Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Maxine McKew has approved $150,000 in funding towards the upgrade of Morialta Conservation Park in Adelaide’s Mount Lofty Ranges.
“The funding delivered through the Rudd Government’s Better Regions Program will upgrade walking trails and signage within the Park,” said Ms McKew.
South Australian Environment and Conservation Minister Jay Weatherill welcomed the announcement.
“This will complement the State Government’s ongoing work to improve visitors’ experience at Morialta through trail planning, and allow us to improve fire access and carry out land rehabilitation.”
“Earlier this year, we also purchased an additional 18 hectares of bushland that will be added to the park.
“I’d like to thank the Morialta Residents Association and the Member for Morialta, Lindsay Simmons MP, for the work they have done towards securing the funding.”
Ms McKew also expressed her gratitude to the Residents Association and to the South Australian Department for Environment and Heritage for its support for the project.
“This is an excellent example of the Federal and State Governments working together to benefit local communities,” said Ms McKew.
The Morialta Conservation Park project forms part of the Rudd Labor Government’s election commitment to provide $176 million over four years under the Better Regions Program.
“Better Regions is providing regional Australia with much-needed community facilities and services, while honouring a range of infrastructure election commitments which were identified by local communities as priorities for their regions,” said Ms McKew.
