New Chairman and 7 new members are appointed to the National Library Board in Singapore

The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts has appointed Ms Yeoh Chee Yan, Second Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education as Chairman of the National Library Board (NLB) for a two year term beginning 1 September 2009.

2. Ms Yeoh began her career in the Security and Intelligence Division (SID) of the Ministry of Defence in 1985. She served as Deputy Head and subsequently Head of the then Scenario Planning Office, Public Service Division, from 1996 to 1998. Over the past decade, she has also undertaken postings to the then Ministry of Community Development as Deputy Secretary, Public Service Division as Deputy Secretary(Development) and CEO of the Civil Service College, as well as Deputy Secretary (Policy) in the Ministry of Defence. Ms Yeoh is currently a member of the NUS Board of Trustees as well as a founding member of the Singapore Sports School.

3. Another seven new members have been appointed to serve on the NLB Board for a two-year term from 1 September 2009. They are:

a. Ms Goh Ann Nee, Chief Financial Officer, City Developments Ltd

b. Assoc Prof Christopher Khoo, Division Head, Wee Kim Wee School of

Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University

c. Mr Kwa Chong Guan, Head, External Programmes, S. Rajaratnam School

of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University

d. Ms Lim Suat Jien, Executive Vice-President, TV Programming and

Production, Channel 5 and okto, Mediacorp TV Singapore Pte Ltd

e. Mr Dhirendra Shantilal, Senior Vice-President, Kelly Services

f. Mr Tan Hang Cheong, Principal, Singapore Polytechnic

g. Mr Timothy Teo, Independent Director, Guocoland Ltd and Lexicon Group

Ltd.

4. Nine Board Members have also been re-appointed for a further two-year term from 1 September 2009. They are:

a. Prof Schubert Foo, Associate Dean (Academic), College of Humanities,

Arts and Social Sciences, Nanyang Technological University

b. Mrs Rosina Howe-Teo, Group Director and Chief Innovation Officer, Land

Transport Authority

c. Mr William Liu Wei Hai, Chairman, Stream Global Pte Ltd

d. Mr Desmond Lum Siew Khuen, Senior Fund Manager, Lion Capital

Management Ltd

e. Mr Manogaran Suppiah, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Indian

Development Association

f. Mr Martin Tan Beng Chong, Executive Director, Halogen Foundation

Singapore

g. Ms Wu Choy Peng, Group Chief Information Officer, Neptune Orient Lines

Ltd

h. Mr Yee Ping Yi, Senior Director, Strategic Policy Office, Public Service

Division

i. Mr Zahidi Abdul Rahman, Architect, Zahidi A.R Arkitek.

5. Both MICA and NLB would like to place on record their deep appreciation for the outstanding service rendered by Ms Lim Soo Hoon, Permanent Secretary, Public Service Division for her Chairmanship of NLB from 1 Jan 2003 to 31 Aug 2009 as well as the following outgoing members:
