Governor Bill Richardson today announced 90 new jobs for the Lea County area. Louisiana Energy Services (L.E.S.) is expanding their operations in southeastern New Mexico, creating 30 new permanent jobs in a renovated building in Jal that will serve as warehouse and provide office space.
“I want to thank L.E.S. for making this additional investment in New Mexico and the people of our state,” Governor Bill Richardson said. “These are good jobs, just the kind my administration has worked so hard to attract to rural New Mexico.”
The 30 permanent jobs will have an average salary of $75,000. The 60 additional jobs will be construction positions for work on expansion projects through 2015, including upgrading the existing Burke Junior High School building.
“One of my highest priorities is working with rural New Mexico to create jobs,” stated Economic Development Department Director Fred Mondragón. “We are pleased to assist an established company like L.E.S. in expanding and creating 90 new rural jobs in Lea County during difficult economic times.”
L.E.S. has raised their overall investment in New Mexico to $3 billion dollars. Their National Enrichment Facility being built in Eunice will provide 50% of the United States total demand for nuclear fuel by 2015.
The jobs announced today add to 303 permanent full time jobs L.E.S. has already created in Lea County. The company will also maintain 500-700 construction jobs until 2015. L.E.S.’s payroll for New Mexico in 2010 is expected to reach $30 million.
L.E.S. Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nuclear Officer Gregory Smith stated, “We consider it a privilege to partner with the City of Jal in their economic development effort.”
